Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Carleton Rode sits in southern Norfolk,
roughly 5 miles south-east of the market town of Attleborough and just
west of the B1113. The area is a broad agricultural plateau roughly 60
to 70 metres above sea level with the upper reaches of the River Tas introducing
a little undulation to the south. The village is set around a 3-way junction
of lanes centered on All Saints Church. |

The period of the transcript is covered by
two standard 800-entry register books, The first book is filmed on Microfilm
MF1656 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and was used for this
transcript, the second book is a very recent deposit and has yet to be filmed
as a consequence the transcript for this book was prepared from the original
register. Microfilm MF1656 is a very recent filming and reflects the superior
quality of current films with clear and contrasting images, the second register
book has suffered a little and is rather crinkled and a challenge invoking
weights to view, it will also be a challenge to film adequately. Despite these caveats this was a straightforward transcripts to prepare with only the usual issues with strange handwriting as a potential source of transcription errors. As with all transcripts every effort is made to exclude typos and the like and it is hoped that few errors will have crept into the production of this transcript. |
