Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Bunwell lies in southern Norfolk about 5
miles east of the market town of Attleborough. Bunwell is a large and
rather linear village built just west of the B1113 road connecting Norwich
to New Buckenham. Bunwell, at the time of this transcript, was largely
an arable agricultural settlement but with a substantial population of
just over 1,000 parishioners it almost qualified as a market town in size.
The area around the village is dominated by large arable fields, Bunwell
sits on a broad plateau and contours are hard to find on the map for several
miles. Nowadays Bunwell has grown as a commuter settlement with modern
housing gracing both ends of the stretched out village. |

Unfortunately not all of Bunwell's register have been deposited, a single standard 800-entry register covers up until 1861 but the following register remains outside the public domain. Unfortunately the go to replacements, the Bishops Transcripts, are also missing for much of the remaining period and only a set covering 4 years survives. As a consequence this transcript is seriously incomplete. The deposited register is filmed on Microfilm MFRO680 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office, this is a modern good quality film and it needs to be given the rather poor clerical standards exhibited, the BTs are of a reasonable quality but too tightly bound to read some dates in full. Should the second register finally be deposited then this transcript will be completed and replace. |
