Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Brooke is located in southeastern Norfolk
about 6 miles southeast of the city of Norwich. Brooke sits adjacent to
the B1332 road which links Norwich to the Suffolk market town of Bungay.
Brooke is compact yet linear which arms spreading both east and west of
the B road yet a small frontage onto that road. The oldest parts of Brooke
are to the east of the B1332 on a lane that wanders past the village pond
towards the church. There has been much modern housing added to the village
as it is such a short commute into the city and the village thrives with
shops and pubs doing good business despite a rural setting. Brooke sits
on a little ridge of higher ground keeping its feet dry from the tributaries
of the River Chet that flow towards Loddon and ultimately the Yare. |

Two standard register books cover the period of the transcript both are standard 800-entry books. The first covers 1813 to 1853, the second runs from thence to finish in 1914. The two registers were deposited many years ago and are filmed on Microfiche 7 to 9 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which were used to prepare this transcript. In common with most of Norfolk's fiche collection the images reflect the standards of their time being rather wishy-washy and lacking in crisp contrast. Despite these issues the entries were mostly readable and were supplemented by reference to the online images held on Familysearch if needed, as a result this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and hopefully few errors will have crept in. |
