Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of East Bilney lies in
central Norfolk roughly 5 miles north of the market town of East
Dereham. East Bilney sits on the B1146 road which connects East
Dereham with Fakenham. East Bilney is a rather dispersed and
scattered settlement, a few properties sit alongside the B1146
whilst others are found either side of the crossing of the Black
Water stream which drains the area into the nearby River Wensum. A
tiny parish of less than 550 acres most of the land is set to
arable whilst a few pastures can be found alongside the Black
Water and Panford Beck they do not amount to more than 20% of the
parish area. The lack of a defined village can be attributed to
the parish being one of many "closed parishes" in this area where
all land was owned by a single landholder, here the Collison
family dominated, and discouraged in migration. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onwards to completion in the late 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF740 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office. In addition to the filmed copies digitised imagery is nowadays available, free to use on Familysearch and for a subscription on the main commercial sites. As a result only the clerical standard remains for comment, this is a little irregular with some pages entered out-of-sequence and new pages frequently started with a change of year, misreads are also possible because of poor handwriting at times. |
