1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Bawburgh St Mary & St Walstan |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Bawburgh lies around 5 miles west of the
city of Norwich, Bawburgh sits on both banks, crossed by a bridge, of
the River Yare just west of Norwich's western bypass. Bawburgh is a relatively
quiet compact village sitting in lanes a half mile north of the Norwich
to Watton road (B1108). The main village street, together with the inn
sits on the northern bank of the Yare but there is also a substantial
portion on the southern bank where the church lies. Nowadays Bawburgh
is growing as a commuter settlement serving the nearby city but formerly
this would have been a settlement with two agricultural streams, pastures
in the Yare valley and arable on higher ground. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of the project and also extend onwards into the mid-20th century. These register books are filmed on Microfiche 5 to 7 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office, most of the fiche collection being elderly and rather poor these records were largely transcribed from the equivalent on-line images held on the free web site Familysearch. As a result of that image quality and ability to post-process where tricky it is hoped that an accurate transcript has been made. |
