Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Barnham Broom lies in central Norfolk about
5 miles northwest of the market town of Wymondham. Barnham Broom is a
large crossroads village situated in the upper Yare valley about one mile
north of the B1108 road which connects the city of Norwich through to
Watton & Hingham. Barnham Broom is surrounded by a sweep of smaller
parishes but its land covers a large stretch of the Yare valley and associated
southern slopes making for a varied farming scene. The floodplain of the
Yare provided pastures, as well as an important flour mill, whilst on
higher ground the normal arable production can be found. To the north
of the village Bickerston Bridge, an 18th century construction crosses
the Yare and leads to the golf course and country club which provides
employment for today's residents. |

Sadly not all of the parishes baptismal records have been deposited, a single standard 800-entry register book covers up to 1874 but thereafter the register is retained by the parish, as no Bishop's Transcripts exist covering this gap the transcript is incomplete. Should the later register eventually enter the public domain the transcript will be completed. The deposited register is filmed on Microfiche 5 & 6 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office but these fiche are elderly and better quality imagery is available, freely on Familysearch and for a subscription on the major commercial platforms. These images were utilised making for an easier task and a straightforward piece to prepare. |
