1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Attleborough Wesleyan Methodist |
Baptisms 1857 to 1880
The Attleborough Wesleyan Methodist Circuit was formed from the Wymondham Circuit in 1858, although there are 2 entries in the register from 1857. The geographical coverage of the Circuit was obviously centred on the market town of Attleborough, lying to the south-west of Norwich on the main A11, but there are entries arom a wide area of local parishes as far south and east as the Pulhams and as far west as the Ellinghams. There are two registers which cover the period of this transcript, both standard Wesleyan books of 400 entries with 2 baptisms per page. The first commencing with the foundation of the circuit is filmed on Microfilm MF1601, the second on Microfilm MF1602 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. Both films are relatively recent filming and the image quality is rather good which is fortunate as the standard of writing is often poor. As can be seen from the erratic sequences of incremental number and date the registers are somewhat irregularly completed with several minister periodically updating a common book - a frequent feature of Methodist Circuit records. Subject to the foibles of the clerks this was relatively straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to hoped that few errors will have crept into its compilation. |
